    Fentanyl & Xylazine Protective Gloves

    Wed, Mar 22, 23

Fentanyl, a synthetic opioid 50-100 times more potent than morphine, is often used under medical supervision to manage severe pain. However, it is frequently mixed with other substances like Xylazine—also known as "tranq"—a veterinary sedative that increases overdose risks and complicates treatment. Illicit fentanyl use also carries a high risk of dependency, addiction, and severe health complications.

While New Zealand has not yet experienced widespread fentanyl-related deaths like the current opioid epidemic in the U.S., experts warn that the country remains vulnerable due to existing drug networks that provide opportunities for the spread of synthetic opioids. The 2022 fentanyl-related deaths in Wairarapa, for example, highlight the need for police, customs, first responders and those in the healthcare fields to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including nitrile gloves.

Fentanyl can be absorbed unintentionally through open wounds, mucous membranes (such as eyes and nose), or inhalation. Minimal skin contact without proper hand hygiene, may result in accidental exposure following face touching or during bathroom use. Alcohol-based hand sanitisers and bleach are not effective at removing opioids from the skin.

    Unmatched Protection You Can Trust

Under ASTM D6978 Chemotherapy Drug Testing, Eagle Sensitive nitrile gloves have been tested against Fentanyl Citrate Injection (100 mcg/2mL) and Xylazine HCI (100mg/ml) with a minimum breakthrough detection time of 240 minutes; further ensuring reliable protection for wearers in high-risk environments.
