In 2015, the United Nations adopted 17 global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. These goals address social, environmental, and economic challenges, calling for action to end poverty and hunger, protect the planet from degradation and climate change, and ensure all humans can enjoy prosperous and peaceful lives in inclusive societies.

All countries and stakeholders are urged to participate. Businesses and individuals also play a critical role: identifying the positive and negative impacts we make on the planet helps us take meaningful action toward achieving these goals.

The following SDGs align with our business priorities and present the greatest opportunity for positive impact for both our customers and us:

  • SDG 3: Good Health & Well-Being
  • SDG 8: Decent Work & Economic Growth
  • SDG 12: Responsible Production & Consumption

SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being

Target 3.9: By 2030, substantially reduce the number of deaths and illnesses from hazardous chemicals and air, water and soil pollution and contamination.

Target 3.9.3: Mortality rate attributed to unintentional poisoning

Glove cross-contamination is a global issue and has been implicated as a contributory cause in over 15% of (food-borne) outbreaks investigated. There are an estimated 325,000 hospitalisations and 3,000 deaths due to food-borne outbreaks in the United States each year, estimated to cost US$77.7 billion. Infection control management systems play an important role within the food and medical industries to minimise the risk of cross-contamination and pathogen infection.

Glove cross-contamination is a contributory cause in over 15% of foodservice food-borne outbreaks investigated (Michaels, B. 2018)

How Eagle is Achieving SDG 3:

  • Scientific research and R&D into the cross-contamination potential and food safety implications of disposable gloves.

  • Delta Zero™ testing of Eagle gloves to protect against physical, chemical, and microbiological hazards.

Eagle Protect’s Goals:

  • Reduce the annual death rate in the US from foodborne illness by 225 people and the number of hospitalisations by 9,600 through the use of quality nitrile gloves.

This work demonstrates how choosing higher-quality gloves directly supports global health outcomes, contributing to safer food and healthcare environments.

SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth

Target 8.7: Take immediate and effective measures to eradicate forced labour, end modern slavery and human trafficking, and eliminate the worst forms of child labour.

Target 8.8: Protect labour rights and promote safe and secure working environments for all workers, including migrants and those in precarious employment.

The British Medical Association has highlighted that disposable glove manufacturing poses a high risk for labour rights abuse, including child and forced labour, workers subjected to harmful chemicals and extreme health and safety violations.

How Eagle is Achieving SDG 8:

  • Our Supplier Code of Conduct measures labour conditions, environmental impact, and quality control.

  • Full supply chain transparency to assess the lifecycle of all products.

  • Raw material verification to prevent chemical hazards or accidental/intentional contamination during production.

Eagle Protect’s Goals:

  • Identify negative work or economic effects within the supply chain and provide solutions to address and measure them.

Through ethical sourcing and supply chain transparency, Eagle helps ensure safe working environments and supports fair labour practices.

SDG 12: Responsible Production and Consumption

Responsible Production & Consumption Icon

Target 12.5: By 2030, substantially reduce waste generation through prevention, reduction, recycling and reuse.

Target 12.6: Encourage companies to adopt sustainable practices and integrate sustainability information into reporting.

Glove consumption can be excessive due to poor quality raw materials and manufacturing processes, resulting in inferior quality gloves with high failure (ripping and puncturing) rates.

Globally, 300 billion disposable gloves are manufactured annually. With around 60% of those used in the US, there is an opportunity for substantial waste reduction.

By swapping vinyl & thicker, poorer quality gloves to thinner & better-engineered nitrile gloves. Based on estimates of industry averages.

How Eagle is Achieving SDG 12:

  • Collaborating with glove manufacturers to improve production standards and material formulations, producing stronger, thinner gloves.

  • Reviewing glove type, dispensing, and processes to reduce consumption.

  • Helping customers switch from vinyl and lower-quality gloves to thinner, stronger, better-engineered nitrile gloves.

Eagle Protect’s Goals:

  1. Reduce glove and packaging waste by 20% through the use of better-quality, longer-lasting gloves.

  2. Provide personalised environmental impact savings for customers, focusing on waste, disposal, water, and CO₂ emissions.

  3. Develop recycling initiatives.

  4. Continue our leadership in sustainability and dedication to B Corp™ certification.

By choosing high-quality gloves, our customers contribute directly to responsible production and consumption, reducing waste and environmental impact.

Eagle’s focus on these SDGs is unique in our glove industry. By protecting our customers’ products, staff, and brand, and by choosing sustainable practices, we can make a measurable difference in addressing global challenges.

Join us in making the world a better place, one glove at a time.
