      From The Nest

      Soar like an Eagle

For many years, man has singled out the Eagle as a symbol of vision, leadership, bravery, courage, honour, pride, determination and grace. What makes this bird stand out so much above the rest? The eagle has long enjoyed the reputation as being King of the birds and being a powerful animal.

Working for a company called Eagle you would expect us to take inspiration from this beautiful and majestic bird of prey who flies alone at a high altitude where no other bird dare goes. Eagles have a strong vision and remain focused no matter what the obstacle and will succeed in life.

Unlike most other birds, the Eagle builds nests in the highest cliffs/trees they can find, and spend their time soaring in the heights. This means that the eagle naturally possesses greater perspective than almost any other bird out there. It is nearly impossible for any of us to excel and be successful without good vision. When we lack foresight, we cannot see the challenges or the possibilities that lie around us.  People who live in the heights set goals, discuss ideas, prefer peace, inspire others and press on toward greatness!

The eagle is a born leader! They chart their own course and are not followers. They are the symbol of independence! People who accomplish great things do so by flying solo from time to time. Solitude is necessary for personal growth.

When storms come, all other birds hide in the leaves and branches of trees for safety, while the eagle uses the storm’s wind to lift itself higher. The eagle escapes the storms by rising above the clouds, while all the other birds scatter. A person with vitality will use his/her problems to get stronger and stronger instead of succumbing to them. We shouldn't let our problems define us.

Eagles do not sweat. Instead, they thermoregulate by panting with their mouth open or through heat loss through the unfeathered legs and feet. Unlike many birds, eagles flap their wings very infrequently. They know how to conserve their energy. A person, who will be stress-free, is a person who has learned that they can’t do everything. They flap but know when to stop and soar and get some good rest.

When the mother eagle sees that time has come for it to teach the baby eagle to fly, she gathers it on her back and begins to fly. She then gently swoops herself from below her little one. It is when the little eagle starts falling that it begins to discover what its wings are for. Our potential is locked inside us.  When it gets uncomfortable enough, we will eventually overcome our fears, jump out and fly!

The eagle possesses positive qualities and traits that are simply breathtaking, hence why we pattern ourselves around some of their traits.  Anyone can pull from these traits and hope you will be as inspired just as we a have been by this animal.

Is Your Company A BCorp Yet?

B Corporations are certified by the non-profit B Lab to voluntarily meet rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency. Certified B Corporations distinguish themselves in a cluttered marketplace by offering a positive vision of a better way to do business; better for workers, better for communities and better for the environment. The B Corporation community includes over 1,000 companies from 33 countries and over 60 industries working together toward one unifying goal: harness the power of the private sector for public benefit and redefine success in business.

      B Corp Inclusiveness

While at the recent launch of B Corp Australasia, one of the founders was doing some Q&A's. One question asked was, “What if (for example) a coal mining company wished to become a certified B Corp?” Steve Ardagh, thought his response was important as it speaks to the inclusiveness of the B Lab and B Corp Certification. The founder answered, "If they were an energy company looking for improvement, in transition as it were from being a Coal Company, then they could potentially become certified".

Eagle Protect is an importer and distributor of disposable consumables to the food, medical and related sectors. We basically import landfill! Necessary, single use items that at this stage cannot be recycled for economical or environmental benefit. We are constantly looking at ways of improving the business we are in; visiting factories - working with them on improving their business, staff conditions, environmental impact, and production.

Sourcing and assisting in developing products that use less raw material are kinder to the user and environment. Also, working with the end users of our products in New Zealand and Australia on more efficient systems and practices to reduce their use of our products.

All of these actions make a small difference each, adding up to enough to make the effort worthwhile. And, while all this is going on we are working with designers and others on new products, better dispensing systems and smarter options for our packaging and shipping.

While unashamedly patting ourselves on the back for our efforts to date, the main point is that B Lab is making it open for all sorts of businesses to complete the B Corp assessment and potentially succeed make this certification so much more meaningful and accessible. So even an importer of single use disposable consumables can be included!
